The Johnson County Tea Party has been informed by a local business owner in Burleson, that his son attends Burleson High School.
Mayor Ken Shetter, Burleson Texas, attended and spoke to his son’s government/economics class at Burleson High School on May 6, 2011.
At this speaking engagement, Mayor Shetter informed the class that he is going to build a train station in Burleson. The government teacher spoke up and asked Mayor Shetter, “How do you plan on paying for this?” Mayor Shetter’s response, “Annexation!”
Mayor Ken Shetter was then asked by the government teacher, “What do you think is the biggest problem with our government today?” Mayor Shetter’s response, “The Tea Party. I remember a couple of years ago when a tea party guy showed up with a sign at Burleson City Hall that read, “Mayor Shetter, The Constitution Shredder.”, I feel sorry for them, the guy didn’t even know how to spell Constitution.” Mayor Shetter then proceeded to laugh.
To say the least, due to the actions and statements as stated above, by Mayor Ken Shetter, not only is the Burleson business owner who contacted the JCTP extremely upset over this, but so is his son and many other fellow students and parents.
Is this the actions of a respectable Mayor for the City of Burleson? Is this what you want your children subject to? The demeaning of a person and or group of individuals, by an elected official? What was it that those children actually learned from Mayor Shetter that day? That actions such as his are ok? This is indoctrination of our children!
Need I remind everyone that Mayor Ken Shetter publicly endorsed Chet Edwards for re-election in the 2010 elections? Need I also remind everyone that Mayor Shetter pushed and was able to obtain the votes by the Burleson City Council to increase your taxes? This is only a couple of examples of Mayor Ken Shetter’s actions. As stated above, by Mayor Shetter, the only idea he has of generating revenue to build a train station in Burleson, is by annexation, which means homeowner property taxes to fulfill his “dream” of what he believes Burleson should be, regardless of the current recession we are experiencing.
Please, contact Mayor Ken Shetter of Burleson and let him know your thoughts, rather you are a citizen of Burleson or not and how you feel about him criticizing a grassroots organization such as the Tea Party and setting an example for our younger generation that it is ok to demean another person or group, just because you personally do not agree with them!
